Scope

Degrove was tasked with completing a Hydrographic and Topographic survey, of the Sea Ray Drive Bridge and Sykes Creek, to support planned replacement or repair of the bridge damaged, by Hurricane Irma.

Main Project Tasks

Degrove was tasked with completing a multi-beam sonar survey of Sykes Creek, at the Sea Ray Road Bridge. Coverage included full channel width. The bottom, in areas shallower than 3 feet in depth, were surveyed by means of tilting the sonar head 30 degrees. The survey was completed utilizing a Reson T50 high resolution multibeam sonar, for swath bathymetry, and a POS MV Surfmaster Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), for motion correction and positioning.

The survey requirements included the necessity for 25% overlap of swath data between adjacent lines. Due to the limited area of the survey, 100% overlap was attained in most areas.

A topographic site survey, of the Sea Ray Drive Bridge and the shore of Sykes Creek, was also completed.  A total station was used to collect data on hard surfaces as well as under the bridge. Enough data was collected via the total station to overlap hydrographic data, as a quality control check.
